Fixed or folding? A fixed blade knife is stronger and easier to clean. It wins for hunting and hard outdoor work. A pocket knife disappears into a pocket for daily tasks. Hunters should look at wider skinning blades. Hikers do well with a light all-purpose blade. A soldier needs a rugged model whose sheath mounts to a belt or harness. Blade steel, wet grip and overall length are the specs that matter most.
