Scarves
A scarf is the most underrated item on any kit list. A couple hundred grams of fabric protects your neck and face from wind, dust and cold. It also keeps you out of sight when needed.
Two families cover every need. The shemagh is a roughly 110 × 110 cm cotton square. It works as sun cover, camouflage, towel and improvised bandage. The tube scarf or neck gaiter pulls over head or face in a second. The difference is that the shemagh can be adjusted, tube scarf is either on/off. Fleece and merino versions handle winter, thin synthetics the summer. Colours run from muted solids to camouflage patterns. A warm hat completes the pairing. The full system lives under clothing and footwear.
