Shovels, Saws & Axes
No camp builds itself. Shovels, saws and axes turn a patch of woods into a shelter, a fire and a finished position. Hikers need them on the trail and reservists on exercise.
A folding shovel packs into a rucksack side pocket and doubles as a pick. A compact folding saw goes through arm-thick branches with less effort than any axe. A small hatchet with a 500 to 700 g head is the workhorse for splitting and camp craft. Fibreglass and steel handles take more abuse than wood. Check whether a carry pouch or edge guard is included. The range includes popular products from Gerber, Fiskars and Mil-Tec. Finer jobs suit a multitool. The full cutting range sits under knives and multitools.
