Other Equipment
Small items decide whether a first aid kit actually works in an emergency. This category gathers the first aid accessories many base kits leave out. It includes emergency blankets, nitrile gloves, medical tape, splints and chest seals.
Gloves belong in the most accessible pocket of the kit. Tape and splints handle fixation of dressings and joints. A thin foil blanket protects a casualty's body heat and packs down to fist size. Chest seals are familiar from TCCC courses and cover penetrating chest wounds as part of a tactical IFAK. In a hiking first aid kit, tape and instant cold packs see far more use. All these extras sit within the wider first aid and hygiene range.
Our reservist team has run these accessories through tours and exercises in person. Only gear whose function we trust makes the shelf.
