Ballistic Plates

Ballistic plates are what turn a plate carrier into armor — without plates, the carrier is just textile. A plate is chosen by threat, not comfort: the rating defines which calibres it is built to stop.

The common footprint is a SAPI-cut plate of roughly 25 × 30 cm; materials range from light UHMWPE polyethylene (around 1.5 kg per plate) to ceramic and steel. As a rule of thumb, NIJ III and III+ cover most rifle threats and NIJ IV adds armor-piercing rounds — and always check whether a plate is rated stand-alone or ICW (in conjunction with soft armor). Size the plate to your plate carrier and its rating to your ballistic protection.

Plates are stocked in Tallinn, and sizing advice comes from people who have carried the same weight on tours and exercises.
