We get asked all the time: "What Helikon-Tex gear should I start with?" Fair question. The brand has a massive catalog, and sorting through it takes time most of us don't have.

So instead of a marketing pitch, we looked at the data. These are the five Helikon-Tex products our customers buy the most — based on sales data and customer reviews from Estonia and Finland, where we've been supplying military, law enforcement, and crisis readiness professionals since the beginning. The patterns are clear: when people stake their comfort and safety on tactical gear, these are the products they choose.

Our team at Steelcore is made up of ex-armed forces members and active reservists. We test the military equipment we sell, and we know what holds up during a cold-weather exercise in northern European conditions. These five products have earned their spot.

1. Patriot Mk2 Fleece — The Workhorse That Got Better

The original Patriot fleece was already one of Helikon-Tex's most popular jackets. The Mk2 takes everything people liked about it and trims the fat — literally. Thanks to the hybrid fleece construction (340 g/m²), the Mk2 delivers similar warmth at noticeably lower weight, coming in at around 810 grams.

The hybrid approach combines a smooth outer face with grid fleece on the inside. That grid structure creates air channels that improve breathability and speed up moisture wicking. During high-output activities like rucking, that difference matters.

Seven pockets give you genuine storage: two chest, two hip-level, two shoulder, and one internal. The shoulder pockets include pen slots and laser-cut hook-and-loop panels for unit patches. Zippered underarm vents let you dump heat without removing layers.

The fit has been modernized too. It's more athletic than the original, which means it layers better under a hardshell without bunching. The redesigned hood works with and without a helmet.

Whether you use it as a standalone jacket during autumn training or as a mid-layer in a winter system, the Patriot Mk2 is the kind of fleece you'll reach for every time. It's our bestseller for a reason.

2. MCDU Pants (DyNyCo) — Combat Pants That Move With You

If you've ever spent a day in stiff, heavy combat pants, you know the value of a pant that actually lets you move. The MCDU (Modern Combat Duty Uniform) pants in DyNyCo fabric are Helikon-Tex's answer to that problem, and they're the top revenue-generating product in our store.

The DyNyCo fabric is the key innovation. It's a blend of 49% nylon, 48% cotton, and 3% elastane, woven in a four-way stretch pattern. These tactical pants flex with you during everything from a low crawl to a vehicle exit — no binding, no restriction. A DWR treatment courtesy of DuPont Teflon coating means light rain and splashes bead right off.

In areas that take the most abuse — waist, crotch, behind the knees — Helikon-Tex reinforced with VersaStretch inserts that are quick-drying and highly breathable. The knee area gets 500D Cordura reinforcement with slots for protective knee pads.

With twelve pockets total, you can organize your loadout without needing extra pouches. Long side ventilation zips with mesh backing give you airflow when temps climb. Hardware is all YKK, and belt loops accommodate straps up to 40mm wide — perfect for pairing with the Cobra belt below.

Available in solid colors and camouflage patterns, these combat pants work equally well for military exercises, law enforcement duty, or demanding outdoor work. Whether you're training in the Baltics, Scandinavia, or anywhere else in Europe, the MCDU is the professional choice.

3. Alpha Tactical Jacket (Grid Fleece) — The Lightweight Layer You'll Always Pack

If the Patriot Mk2 is your heavy fleece for cold days, the Alpha Tactical is its lighter, more packable sibling. At 638 grams, this grid fleece jacket compresses small enough to toss in the top of your pack as insurance against temperature drops.

The 100% polyester grid fleece is the same technology used in military-grade insulation layers across NATO forces. The raised square pattern traps warmth while channels between wick moisture away. The result is a mid-layer that keeps you warm without becoming a sweat trap.

Helikon-Tex designed the Alpha Tactical for the Urban Tactical Line, so it works equally well under a plate carrier or a civilian jacket. Five YKK-zippered pockets keep essentials accessible, and hook-and-loop panels on both arms accommodate patches and unit identifiers. Elasticated cuffs and an adjustable hem seal warmth in and prevent ride-up under load-bearing equipment.

The Alpha Tactical shines as a layering piece. Throw it over a moisture-wicking base layer and under a windproof shell, and you have an effective three-layer system that handles conditions from early autumn through late spring. For its weight and packability, it's hard to beat.

4. Cobra FC45 Tactical Belt — Simple, Strong, Essential

A belt might seem like a minor purchase, but ask anyone who's carried a sidearm, knife, or radio on a flimsy belt — the right belt matters more than you'd think. The Cobra FC45 is one of those pieces of gear you buy once and stop thinking about, because it just works.

The star is the AustriAlpin Cobra FC45 buckle — a patented quick-release mechanism that locks positively and opens with a squeeze. No fumbling, no accidental release. The 100% nylon webbing is 45mm wide, fitting the belt loops on most tactical pants without being bulky.

At 182 grams, the Cobra FC45 is barely noticeable on your waist, yet it's stiff enough to support a holster, multitool, or IFAK pouch without sagging. The stepless adjustment means no belt holes to wear out — you set it to exactly the right length and it stays there.

This belt sees heavy use among our law enforcement and military customers who need reliable equipment. It's also popular with crisis preparedness enthusiasts building everyday carry setups. Available in Black, Coyote, Olive Green, and Shadow Grey, it pairs naturally with any tactical wardrobe.

One note: the Cobra FC45 is not rated for climbing or life-safety use. For everything else — duty use, field exercises, everyday carry — this belt is the standard.

5. Raccoon Mk2 Backpack (20L) — The Right Size for Real Life

Not every job calls for a 50-liter assault pack. Most days, you need a compact, well-organized pack that carries essentials without turning you into a turtle. The Raccoon Mk2 fills that role perfectly.

Built from 500D Cordura with YKK zippers and Woojin buckles throughout, this 20-liter pack is tough enough for field use but light enough (1,270 grams) for daily carry.

The layout is practical. Two main compartments separate your gear. The first has a three-pocket organizer with pen slots; the second is slightly larger with a zippered mesh organizer. A dedicated hydration bladder pocket sits against the rigid back panel, with an external tube routing port.

On the outside, you get a hook-and-loop panel for patches, six rows of MOLLE/PALS-compatible webbing for pouches, and a shock cord system for securing items like a wet jacket or sleeping pad. Side compression straps keep the load stable when the pack isn't full.

The carrying system features contoured shoulder straps with spacer mesh, a detachable waist belt, and a removable back stiffener. Quick-release buckles let you dump the pack fast if needed.

The Raccoon Mk2 works as a 24-hour pack for short operations, a training day bag, or an everyday commuter pack. Its 20-liter sweet spot means it carries enough without encouraging overpacking — something anyone with military experience can appreciate.

Building a System That Works

These five products weren't chosen by a marketing team. They're based on what our customers in Estonia and Finland — soldiers, law enforcement, rescue personnel, and preparedness-minded professionals — keep buying and recommending, month after month. And they work well together.

Pair the MCDU pants with the Cobra belt. Layer the Alpha Tactical fleece under the Patriot Mk2 when temperatures really drop. Pack your essentials in the Raccoon Mk2. You've just built a functional loadout from trusted, field-proven gear without overcomplicating things.

At Steelcore, we stock all of these products and ship across Europe. Every item is in stock and ready to go. Our team has used this gear in exercises, courses, and real-world conditions — we sell what we trust.
